Vasant Panchami - the season of celebration has arrived. It is time to welcome beautiful spring in the form of fresh greenery, singing birds, blossoming flowers, lovely weather. Hindus celebrate the oncoming of Vasant Panchami with gaiety and fervor. To start this wonderful season, Saraswat Puja is held in homes, institutions, temples and it is considered auspicious to chant the Saraswati mantra on this day.

Vasant Panchami is considered to be the birthday of Goddess Saraswati and a grand pooja is held in homes which worship this goddess of knowledge & arts. The sacred saraswati mantra to be especially chanted on this day is -

Om Saraswati Mahabhagey, Vidye Kamala Lochaney |

Viswarupey Vishalakshmi, Vidyam Dehi Namohastutey ||
Jaya Jaya Devi, Charachara Sharey, Kuchayuga Shobhita, Mukta Haarey |
Vina Ranjita, Pustaka Hastey, Bhagavati Bharati Devi Namohastutey ||

In Maharashtra and Gujarat, Saraswat Puja is begun by chanting "Saraswati Awahan" on Maha Saptami and finally ends on "VijayaDashmi" which is the day for immersion of Saraswati Idol. As Goddess Saraswati stands for wisdom and knowledge, devotees pray to the goddess for bestowing wisdom and knowledge on their children. In some parts of the country, people fly kites, families go on picnics & enjoy get-together with friends.

Greet your family & friends on this sacred, beautiful day of Vasant Panchami with lovely SMS -
